GlenAllachie Unveils Limited 13 Year Old ‘Year of the Fire Horse’ Lunar New Year Edition

The GlenAllachie Distillers Company has announced a limited edition release to celebrate Lunar New Year 2026 and the Year of the Fire Horse, unveiling a 13-year-old single malt matured in a combination of Pedro Ximénez Sherry, Oloroso Sherry and Virgin Oak casks.

This marks the second instalment in the distillery’s Lunar New Year series, following last year’s Year of the Snake release.

Crafted for Lunar New Year 2026

The Fire Horse year begins on 17 February 2026, symbolising energy, independence and boldness, themes GlenAllachie says align with both the spirit of the zodiac and the distillery’s own whisky making approach.

Created by master distiller Billy Walker, the 13 year old expression combines sherry maturation with the influence of high charred Appalachian virgin oak, chosen to echo the “fire” element of the zodiac. The distillery describes the whisky as rich, warm and layered, with a balance of sherry sweetness and toasted oak character.

Cask Influence & Flavour Notes

According to GlenAllachie, each cask type contributes distinct notes:

  • PX Sherry: brown sugar, maraschino cherry, sultanas, nutmeg, cinnamon
  • Oloroso Sherry: dark chocolate, mocha, dates, figs
  • Virgin Oak: butterscotch, vanilla, coconut, subtle spice

Inspiration from Asian Whisky Communities

Walker highlighted the importance of GlenAllachie’s long-standing ties with whisky fans across Asia:

“The warmth and enthusiasm I’ve experienced there left a lasting impression and inspired us to create something worthy of celebration… It’s a dram made to be shared in good company and good fortune.” — Billy Walker

For this edition, the distillery worked with key Asian retailers who tasted the whisky pre-bottling and provided feedback on age, cask selection and flavour. Their input also shaped the packaging design.

Bespoke Packaging

The release features limited-edition artwork by Scottish illustrator Kayley Barbour, using a fiery-red palette with hand-drawn Fire Horse imagery, foil detailing and a symbolic horseshoe charm. Each bottle comes with a matching gift bag.
