Wemyss Malts Revives Velvet Fig as 12 Year Sherry Cask Blend

The blender‑house Wemyss Malts has brought back its Velvet Fig series, now reimagined as a 12 year old blended malt and released today (26 November 2025). Bottled from six first fill sherry casks (Oloroso Sherry) filled between June and November 2012, this limited edition is positioned as a refined, cask matured malt suited for whisky lovers who appreciate depth, fruitiness, and sherry‑influenced richness.

This update marks the third iteration of Velvet Fig but the first time it carries an age statement, highlighting Wemyss Malts’ commitment to refined maturation and transparency. With a global rollout due January 2026, the 12 Year Velvet Fig stands out as one of the season’s most anticipated blended malt drops. The return also underscores a broader trend of independent blenders leaning into older age‑statement bottlings rather than no‑age or experimental blends.

For fans of sherry cask character and balanced blended malts, Velvet Fig 12‑Year could become a staple, blending accessibility with sophistication.
